Labour's misleading crime "picture"

David Davis has condemned the Government's misleading method of recording crime after it emerged that at least three million offences are omitted from the official statistics.

We wish.

Now that Tony has stiched-up Brown, is it not now time for a referendum to kill it for once and for all.

"If that new Prime Minister, like us, really believes in power to the people, then he must hold a referendum and let the people decide."

However with our friend David is a committed Europhile, as can be seen from this

The dirty dozen: Labour buries bad news – yet again

Theresa May, the Shadow Leader of the House of Commons, today revealed Labour's "dirty dozen" – twelve bad news stories buried by the Government during the fallout from the Scottish, Welsh and English local election results.

She said:

"The government that thought September 11th was 'a good day to bury bad news' is still at it. This research shows that Labour buried twelve bad news stories during the fallout from the elections.

"And they're hardly petty matters. More than £5 million was spent trying to recover tax credit overpayments. Nearly £500 million was spent by the National Health Service on clinical negligence claims last year. And more than £150,000 of taxpayers' money went to Gordon Brown's friends at Opinion Leader Research.

"This is yet further evidence that proves, whether we have Blair or Brown, Labour's spin and deceit will just go on and on."

Some number crunching

It has emerged that Labour has failed to find candidates for 40 per cent of the seats up for grabs in the May 3 polls.

Clear evidence is now available to show that the organisation presided over by Tony Blair and Gordon Brown is crumbling, as Labour fields the lowest number of candidates achieved by any Party in power at this particular stage in the local electoral cycle.

In contrast, analysis shows that David Cameron's revived Conservatives are campaigning with a record number of candidates seeking seats in the elections early next month.

Detailed number-crunching of all the 10,000-plus council seats up for grabs, and based on the lists of nominations published by each local authority, shows that Labour are only contesting 60.6 per cent - that is 6,360 - of all the available seats, reflecting a five per cent drop on the last polls.

However, Conservatives are contesting 88 per cent of seats - totalling 9,264 - which is their best ever performance at this stage in the electoral cycle; while the Liberal Democrats are contesting just 6,667 seats, or 64 per cent of those subject to ballot, which is only marginally better than Labour's worsening performance.

And Labour and the Liberal Democrats have also failed to meet the challenge poised by the BNP, which is running 717 candidates; while UKIP has 805 candidates in the field. While the Conservatives are contesting 96.7 per cent of town hall seats against the BNP, Labour is failing to run candidates against the party in 47 wards, and the Liberal Democrats are giving the BNP a free run in 129 wards.

A history lesson for Miliband: favourites always stumble

An interesting article posted by the Times..

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/article1459223.ece

To quote the Article

"Supporters of David Miliband — such as Mr Field — point out that their man was not even in the Cabinet when the Iraq vote took place. He carries none of the baggage of the past ten years that weighs down Gordon Brown."

This is a fair comment, the other is that will the "English" like to be ruled by a guy sitting in Scotland, thats the country where English MP's can not vote on Scottish issues, however Scottish MP's can vote on English Issues. How many of the New cabinet under Gorden will be from Scotland?

Reid will back Miliband for PM to block Brown

So the gloves are off, at last we could have a contest on for the leader of the Labour party.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/04/08/nlab08.xml

It is interesting to note that Miliband is on holiday in France, I do hope he has went green and used the train and local transport and not used 4 wheel drive to go to the airport, hop on a plane and then drive to his holiday home? His carbon foorprint is now at a size 14, can you get any bigger?

Miliband defends bird flu moves

Which do you safeguard, jobs in Hungary or peoples lives in a country that you have been elected to serve?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6351489.stm

Now I believe that France and Germany and, lets say not allowing any food in from this country. However Milliband has interpreted the rules to say that we have to allow this meat in. So the laws are made so that our health and saftey are not taken in to account.

I forogt, Milliband says it was a breakdown in there "had been a lapse in bio-security"

Tory group will probe 2012 Olympic costs

See
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/6347073.stm

Along with
http://www.conservatives.com/tile.do?def=news.story.page&obj_id=134945

Now, everytime someone mentions how much it will cost to stage the Olympics it goes UP. I do not expect that cost go down, find a public achievement that was under budget or cost less than originally budgeted for. However, I do think we should keep the costs in check, this can not turn in to another Wembley or Dome or CSA or even Passport overrun. Someone must keep a check on this.

On another point who actually thinks this 2012 Olympics will benefit anyone living north of Watford? Will Manchester benefit, Newcastle or even Teeside? I for one will not make the trek South to watch the Olympics, for one it is quicker to fly to Paris than it is to use public transport to London and then to get out to the site of the Olympics.

I think the Olympics should have either been staged say at Birminghan or even Manchester.

Education,Education,Education

Tony Blair asked for this trust. He gave a speech back in 1996 which captured the nation's imagination.

"Ask me the three main priorities for government and I tell you," he said. "Education, education, education."

But it's now clear he's failed. On all three counts. Let's look at the facts...

  • One in four pupils aged 14 is unable to read and write properly.
  • Over 3 million pupils are in schools which are officially deemed "inadequate".
  • Today's 11-year-olds are THREE YEARS behind their 1976 counterparts.
  • GCSE exam improvement has been slower than under the Tories.

Britain is plunging down the world education league tables, now 26th out of 30 rich countries.
